Senior Java Engineer - Distributed Systems - Elasticsearch

ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Engineer to join our Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team at Elastic, the Search AI Company. As a Senior Java Engineer, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of Elasticsearch, a platform used by over 50% of the Fortune 500 companies. You will be part of a team that owns the design and development of Elasticsearch's distributed systems, focusing on scalability, performance, and resilience. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Senior Java Engineer on our Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team, you will be responsible for improving the components that support concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines. You will maintain our cluster coordination system, ensuring high performance even in the face of node additions and removals, while maintaining the safety and liveness properties of the system. You will also push the limits of Elasticsearch's scalability, exploring the number of shards, nodes, and petabytes that can be handled. Additionally, you will investigate performance and concurrency issues, propose solutions, and support our support engineers with complex problems. WHAT YOU'LL NEED To succeed in this role, you will need a strong background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms. You should have strong skills in core Java, including data structures and concurrency constructs, as well as a deep technical proficiency in algorithms. You should be able to understand and work on complex, highly distributed systems, and demonstrate the ability to build and debug features with a broad impact, running on multiple machines. Experience with data stores, search, analytics, Lucene, and asynchronous event-driven network frameworks such as Netty is a plus.
