Senior Java Engineer - Distributed Systems - Elasticsearch

ABOUT THE ROLE Elastic, the Search AI Company, is seeking a Senior Java Engineer to join our Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team. As a key member of this team, you will focus on enhancing Elasticsearch's scalability, performance, and resilience. The team is responsible for designing and implementing the components that enable Elasticsearch to handle large-scale data and ensure seamless communication between nodes in a cluster. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Senior Java Engineer, you will be responsible for improving Elasticsearch's components that support concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines. Your tasks will include maintaining our cluster coordination system to ensure high performance even when nodes come and go from the cluster and data moves around, while maintaining the safety and liveness properties of the system as a whole. You will also be expected to push the limits of Elasticsearch's capabilities, including handling a large number of shards, nodes, and petabytes of data. Additionally, you will investigate and resolve performance and concurrency issues, and support our support engineers with complex problems. WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you will need a strong background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms. You should have a deep understanding of core Java and proficiency in algorithms. Experience with complex, highly distributed systems is essential, and you should be able to own projects from beginning to end, including technical design and collaboration with others. Bonus points will be given to candidates with knowledge of data stores, search, analytics, Lucene, the JDK, and asynchronous event-driven network frameworks such as Netty.
