Senior Java Engineer - Distributed Systems - Elasticsearch

ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Engineer to join our Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team at Elastic. As a key member of this team, you will focus on enhancing Elasticsearch's scalability, performance, and resilience by improving its components that support concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Senior Java Engineer, you will be responsible for: - Improving Elasticsearch's components that support concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines - Maintaining our cluster coordination system to ensure high performance even in the presence of node additions and removals, while maintaining the safety and liveness properties of the system - Pushing the limits of Elasticsearch's scalability by optimizing its handling of shards, nodes, and petabytes - Troubleshooting complex issues, including performance and concurrency problems, and proposing effective solutions - Collaborating with support engineers to resolve complex technical issues WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you will need: - A strong background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms - Proficiency in core Java, including the standard library of data structures and concurrency constructs, as well as newer language features - A deep technical proficiency in algorithms - Experience working on complex, highly distributed systems - Ability to build and debug features with a broad impact, running on multiple machines - Strong ownership of projects from beginning to end, including technical design and collaboration with others WHY REMOTE As a remote-friendly company, we value diversity and flexibility.
