Senior Java Engineer - Distributed Systems - Elasticsearch

ABOUT THE ROLE Elastic, the Search AI Company, is seeking a Senior Java Engineer to join our Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team. This team owns the core components of Elasticsearch that provide scale, performance, and resilience. As a Senior Java Engineer, you will focus on improving these components to support concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Senior Java Engineer on our Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team, your primary responsibilities will include: Improving Elasticsearch’s components that support concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines. Maintaining our cluster coordination system to ensure high performance even in dynamic environments where nodes come and go from the cluster and data moves around. Pushing the limits on the number of shards, nodes, and petabytes that Elasticsearch can handle today. Investigating and resolving complex issues, including performance or concurrency issues, and proposing effective solutions. Supporting our support engineers with the most challenging problems. WHAT YOU'LL NEED To succeed in this role, you should have: A strong background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms. Strong skills in core Java, including the standard library of data structures and concurrency constructs, as well as newer language features. A deep technical proficiency in algorithms. Experience working on complex, highly distributed systems. The ability to build and debug features with a broad impact, running on multiple machines.
