Senior Java Engineer - Distributed Systems - Elasticsearch

ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking a Senior Java Engineer to join our Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team at Elastic. As a Senior Java Engineer, you will play a critical role in improving the scalability, performance, and resilience of Elasticsearch. This team is responsible for designing and implementing the components that enable Elasticsearch to handle large-scale data and high concurrency. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Senior Java Engineer, you will be responsible for improving Elasticsearch's components that support concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines. This will involve maintaining our cluster coordination system to ensure high performance even when nodes come and go from the cluster and data moves around. You will also be responsible for pushing the limits of Elasticsearch's scalability, handling issues related to performance and concurrency, and supporting our support engineers with complex problems. WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you will need a strong background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms. You should have strong skills in core Java and be conversant in the standard library of data structures and concurrency constructs, as well as newer language features. A deep technical proficiency in algorithms and the ability to understand and work on complex, highly distributed systems are also essential. You should be able to own projects from beginning to end, including technical design and working with others to develop needed components.
