Senior Java Engineer - Distributed Systems - Elasticsearch

ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Java Engineer to join our Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team at Elastic, the Search AI Company. As a Senior Java Engineer, you will play a critical role in shaping the future of Elasticsearch, focusing on scale, performance, and resilience. This team is responsible for designing and implementing the components that enable Elasticsearch to handle massive amounts of data across multiple machines. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Senior Java Engineer on our Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team, you will be responsible for: Improving Elasticsearch's components that support concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines. Maintaining our cluster coordination system to ensure high performance even in the presence of node additions and removals, while maintaining the safety and liveness properties of the system as a whole. Pushing the limits of Elasticsearch's scalability, handling large numbers of shards, nodes, and petabytes of data. Investigating and resolving complex issues, including performance and concurrency problems, and proposing effective solutions. Collaborating with support engineers to tackle challenging problems and provide expert guidance. WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you will need: A strong background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms. Excellent skills in core Java, including a deep understanding of the standard library, data structures, and concurrency constructs. A deep technical proficiency in algorithms and the ability to understand and work on complex, highly distributed systems. Experience with building and debugging features with a broad impact, running on multiple machines.
