Senior Java Engineer - Distributed Systems - Elasticsearch

ABOUT THE ROLE Elastic, the Search AI Company, is seeking a Senior Java Engineer to join the Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team. As a key member of this team, you will focus on ensuring the scalability, performance, and resilience of Elasticsearch. The team is responsible for designing and implementing the components that enable Elasticsearch to handle large volumes of data, index, allocate, and replicate data across multiple nodes. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Senior Java Engineer on this team, you will be responsible for improving the components that support concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines. This will involve maintaining the cluster coordination system to ensure high performance even when nodes are added or removed from the cluster, while maintaining the safety and liveness properties of the system. You will also be tasked with pushing the limits of Elasticsearch's scalability, performance, and resilience, and with investigating and proposing solutions to performance, concurrency, and other issues. Additionally, you will work closely with support engineers to resolve complex issues and support the development of new features. WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you will need a strong background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms, as well as strong skills in core Java and the standard library of data structures and concurrency constructs. You should also have a deep technical proficiency in algorithms and the ability to understand and work on complex, highly distributed systems. Experience with data stores, search, analytics, and Lucene is a plus, as is knowledge of asynchronous event-driven network frameworks such as Netty.
