Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE The Senior Frontend Engineer (Vue) will play a critical role in the Repository Management team within GitLab's Source Code stage. This team is responsible for helping customers configure repositories with confidence, ensuring their GitLab projects support the way their teams work. As artificial intelligence agents increasingly write and manage code alongside people, the Senior Frontend Engineer will build guardrails that make development safe and trustworthy. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Senior Frontend Engineer, you will develop secure, well-tested, and performant features and improvements using Vue.js and GraphQL. You will work closely with product management, product design, and user experience team members to understand customer problems and build intuitive, responsive, and accessible interfaces. You will also collaborate across functions and teams, both asynchronously and synchronously, involving domain experts when their input will improve the outcome. You will use artificial intelligence agents for well-scoped work when they can speed up delivery without sacrificing quality, and critically review their output. You will write maintainable code that follows GitLab's standards and advocate for those standards through code review. Additionally, you will strengthen reliability by monitoring production health metrics, participating in Tier 2 on-call, troubleshooting incidents, performing root cause analysis, and improving observability and resiliency. WHAT YOU'LL NEED To succeed in this role, you will need professional experience with Vue.js or another modern JavaScript web framework, such as React, Angular, or Ember, and experience using GraphQL for application programming interface integration and data management. You will also need a solid understanding of semantic hypertext markup language, cascading style sheets, core JavaScript concepts, responsive design, accessibility standards, and frontend performance best practices. You should have experience solving complex policy, permissions, or rules-based problems in web applications and making that complexity feel simple and usable. Additionally, you should have experience writing frontend unit and acceptance tests with tools such as Jest, Karma, Jasmine, Mocha, ava, or tape, and familiarity with the testing pyramid. You should also have a track record of raising the bar on how your team or group uses artificial intelligence coding agents in a large, complex monorepo, including scoping tasks, reviewing generated code, and knowing when to take direct control. Furthermore, you should have experience using Git in a professional environment and familiarity with collaborative code review processes. WHY REMOTE As a remote team, we value flexibility and independence. You will have the freedom to work from anywhere and manage your priorities independently. We also prioritize clear communication and collaboration, and you will be expected to share useful status updates in a remote, asynchronous environment. BENEFITS GitLab offers a comprehensive benefits package, including a competitive salary, flexible schedule, and opportunities for professional growth and development. We also offer a range of benefits, including health insurance, parental leave, education stipend, and life insurance.
