ABOUT THE ROLE

You will work closely with product, data, and platform teams to translate business goals into robust, cloud‑native services that support real‑time, multimodal conversations across SMS, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Twilio’s own Programmable Voice and Video APIs. Your influence will extend beyond the engineering team, as you advocate for best practices, mentor emerging leaders, and contribute to Twilio’s broader engineering culture and community.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
You will define and execute the engineering roadmap for conversational AI, ensuring alignment with Twilio’s product strategy and customer success goals.
You will recruit, coach, and retain top engineering talent, fostering a culture of continuous learning, high accountability, and inclusive collaboration.
You will partner with data science and product teams to build scalable, low‑latency services that support real‑time inference, intent detection, and natural language understanding.
You will oversee architecture reviews, code quality, and performance testing, driving best practices for distributed systems, containerization, and cloud automation.
You will represent Twilio at external conferences, developer meetups, and industry panels, positioning the company as a thought leader in conversational technology.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
You bring 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 3 years managing high‑impact engineering teams in a fast‑moving tech environment.
You have a proven track record building and scaling real‑time, AI‑driven communication services on cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or GCP.
You are fluent in modern programming languages (Python, Go, Java, or Node.js) and comfortable with microservices, event‑driven architectures, and CI/CD pipelines.
You possess strong analytical skills, with experience applying machine learning models to natural language processing and conversational flows.
You excel at cross‑functional collaboration, translating complex technical concepts into clear business outcomes for product, sales, and support stakeholders.
You are a proactive problem solver, comfortable making data‑driven decisions and iterating quickly in an agile environment.
