Senior Engineering Manager

ABOUT THE ROLE We're on a mission to make money work for everyone. As a Senior Engineering Manager at Monzo, you'll be a key player in shaping the future of our engineering organisation. You'll lead multiple teams, grow and build new squads as needed, and be responsible for the technical and delivery outcomes for your area. This is a leadership role that requires a strong technical and delivery background, as well as experience in managing and developing engineering talent. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Senior Engineering Manager, you'll be accountable for the technical and delivery outcomes for your area. This includes supporting and developing best-in-class engineering talent, creating an inclusive team environment, and structuring, organising, and challenging your team to deliver on their mission. You'll work closely with Technical Leads, Product Managers, and other stakeholders to drive technical initiatives and raise the bar for engineering practices. You'll be responsible for: - Leading multiple teams and growing and building new squads as needed - Supporting and developing best-in-class engineering talent - Creating an inclusive team environment for engineers to do their best work - Structuring, organising, and challenging your team to deliver on their mission - Collaborating with Technical Leads and Product Managers to drive technical initiatives - Partnering with senior engineers to drive technical initiatives that raise the bar for engineering practices - Building strong stakeholder relationships with other teams and creating a focus space for engineers to do their best work - Contributing to company-wide best managerial and technical practices and standards WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you'll need: - A strong technical and delivery background, with experience as a software engineer in previous roles - Experience directly managing at least 2-3 Engineering Managers and leading orgs of around ~20 engineers - Experience supporting, coaching, and developing engineers through their career with regular 1:1s and continuous feedback - Strong technical influence and ability to drive technical initiatives that raise the bar for engineering practices - Excellent people leadership skills and ability to build strong stakeholder relationships with other teams - Ability to collaborate with the wider engineering organisation to contribute to company-wide best managerial and technical practices and standards WHY REMOTE At Monzo, we value connections, flexibility, and wellbeing. We value meeting in person, but there's no pressure to come into the office, even if you're nearby. If you live outside of London and we ask you to come into the office, Monzo will support you with the costs.
