Senior Engineering Manager, Enterprise Foundations

ABOUT THE ROLE We're seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead our Enterprise Foundations team, responsible for the architectural and integration work that enables Instacart's Retailer Platform to scale across the world's largest grocers. As a key member of our engineering organization, you will play a critical role in shaping the technical direction of our platform and driving the consolidation of bespoke services onto unified Instacart platform rails. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Senior Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of ~12 engineers across multiple workstreams, setting clear architectural and execution direction, developing talent, and fostering a culture of ownership, accountability, and continuous improvement. Your responsibilities will include: - Setting and maintaining the unifying technical thesis for the team, ensuring related workstreams converge on shared solutions rather than parallel implementations. - Driving consolidation of bespoke retailer-vertical services onto unified Instacart platform rails, so each surface inherits Instacart's ranking, search, recommendations, and fulfillment. - Partnering with ML and Data Engineering on long-term enterprise data platform compliance for our ML systems, ensuring per-retailer model training has the data, signals, and isolation it needs. - Delivering self-service tooling that lets retailers and internal teams ship without engineering bottlenecks. - Representing technical and product trade-offs across multiple engineering and product organizations, brokering resourcing decisions, driving clarity in ambiguous scope, and ensuring engineering investment stays aligned with committed work. WHAT YOU'LL NEED To succeed in this role, you will need: - 8+ years of software engineering experience, including 3+ years managing engineering teams delivering platform or infrastructure products in a B2B or enterprise context. - Experience leading teams of 10+ engineers, including hiring, performance management, and career development of senior individual contributors. - Demonstrated success operating in ambiguous, high-growth environments where partner roadmaps, product coverage, and integration commitments are still maturing. - Proven cross-functional leadership influencing outcomes across multiple engineering and product organizations, including comfort using structured escalation to unblock multi-team initiatives. - Technical proficiency in distributed systems, API/SDK design, and cloud infrastructure (e.g., AWS or GCP). - A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
