Senior Engineer (Platform)

ABOUT THE ROLE As a Senior Engineer at Later, you will play a crucial role in driving large-scale projects, delivering impactful features, and maintaining high engineering standards. You will be responsible for solving complex problems, collaborating across teams, and mentoring junior engineers while continuously improving our codebases and fostering a culture of technical excellence. With deep expertise in modern software development and Agile practices, you will shape how we build, scale, and innovate—directly influencing product velocity and engineering culture. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Senior Engineer, you will be responsible for: Designing scalable, maintainable, and secure service architectures that meet the needs of our growing platform Identifying opportunities for platform-wide improvements, new service development, and reduction of technical debt Contributing to long-term platform vision and helping shape standards for engineering excellence Contribution to long-term architectural planning and system design Building backend services using C# in a Functional Programming paradigm or TypeScript for web and background worker applications Working with both SQL and NoSQL databases, with PostgreSQL expertise preferred Implementing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, Git workflows, and Infrastructure as Code Applying security best practices across applications and infrastructure Continuously improving the codebase by upholding high standards for code reviews, architecture, testing, and deployment Acting as the go-to expert for debugging, troubleshooting, and system reliability Growing as a technical mentor to multiply team impact by elevating skills and practices of peers and junior engineers Collaborating within your team and cross-functional teams to define requirements, scope projects, and deliver platform solutions Working closely with stakeholders to debug, troubleshoot, and resolve complex backend issues across the stack Contributing to engineering culture by modeling ownership, accountability, and a growth mindset Mentoring and developing junior engineers through coaching, pairing, and feedback Championing engineering best practices, raising the bar for technical excellence across the team Modeling emotional intelligence and resilience, building trust and inspiring growth in others Staying current on emerging technologies in distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and secure software practices Promoting Agile best practices and contributing to evolving team workflows Sharing insights on industry trends and competitor approaches to inform product and engineering strategy WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you will need: 7-10 years of progressive software engineering experience, with leadership required In-depth knowledge of modern software development practices and architectures Proficiency or ability to ramp up quickly with typed, functional programming in C# or TypeScript Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases, with PostgreSQL expertise preferred Experience in system architecture, designing secure, scalable, and maintainable platforms Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS (or equivalent cloud) Strong knowledge of DevOps practices (Git, CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code) Expertise in application and infrastructure security best practices Strong understanding of testing and automation practices Experience in performance optimization for reliability and scalability A strong interest in AI/ML applications in production systems Proven experience working in ambiguous, complex problem spaces with strong problem-solving skills WHY REMOTE As a remote team, we value flexibility and autonomy.
