ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Backend Engineer to join our Grafana Backend Services squad as part of a 100% remote company with 1,600+ team members across 40+ countries. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will be responsible for delivering new functionality and iterating on existing features to improve the Grafana service. Your key responsibilities will include: - Working with your team to design and implement new features, and using the results to inform future iterations - Contributing to and reviewing design documents for upcoming features - Embracing our open-source culture and contributing to other projects that align with your interests - Taking an active role in influencing our roadmap and your career objectives - Participating in on-call rotations and taking ownership of the services you're running - Mentoring and supporting other team members, participating in design discussions, and collaborating with the team - Regularly sharing ideas and knowledge across a wide range of technical ideologies and mindsets - Working closely with other squads in the Grafana Division We invest heavily in developer productivity, providing access to modern AI coding assistants and a company-funded usage budget to support your work. You will also have access to frontier models, such as GPT-Codex 5/3, Claude Opus 4.6, and Gemini 3 Pro. WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you will need: - Solid backend development experience, ideally with Go - A good understanding of storage solutions, with an emphasis on relational databases like MySQL, SQLite, and Postgres - A strong focus on developer and user experience, and a commitment to delivering high-quality products - Experience with delivering projects from gathering requirements to shipping a product to the customer's hands in a self-driven way - Experience writing clean, robust, and performant software that is easily maintained by others - Experience mentoring junior engineers in a collaborative but asynchronous environment - A passion for working on complex solutions and breaking them down into achievable goals BONUS POINTS FOR - Experience with open-source software and/or commercial open-source companies - Experience working with Docker and Kubernetes - Experience with CI/CD, DevOps, or Developer Efficiency work streams - Familiarity with being on-call and performing operations/SRE tasks - Exposure to microservices architecture and distributed systems, or a desire to learn WHY REMOTE As a remote company, we offer the flexibility to work from anywhere and maintain a healthy work-life balance.
