Job Description
ABOUT THE ROLE
We're seeking highly motivated Research Engineers to contribute to the development of the next generation of training environments for capable and safe agentic AI at Anthropic. This role combines research and engineering responsibilities, requiring you to implement novel approaches and contribute to research direction.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As a Research Engineer, you'll work on fundamental research in reinforcement learning, designing training environments and methodologies that push the state of the art, and building evaluations that measure genuine capability. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Building the next generation of agentic environments
- Building rigorous evaluations that measure real capability
- Collaborating across research and infrastructure teams to ship environments into production training
- Debugging and iterating rapidly across research and production ML stacks
- Contributing to research culture through technical discussions and collaborative problem-solving
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
To be successful in this role, you'll need to be highly impact-driven, operating with high agency, and possessing good research taste or senior technical experience. You'll also need to be able to balance research exploration with engineering implementation, be passionate about the potential impact of AI, and be committed to developing safe and beneficial systems. Additionally, you'll require strong software engineering skills and be comfortable with uncertainty and adapt quickly as the landscape shifts.
WHY REMOTE
Anthropic is a hybrid company, and this role is eligible for remote work. While we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time, we're open to discussing flexible arrangements that work for you.
BENEFITS
The annual compensation range for this role is $500,000 - $850,000 USD. We also offer a range of benefits, including visa sponsorship, a competitive salary, and opportunities for growth and development.
