Principal Software Engineer - macOS

ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking a highly impactful and influential Software Engineer to join our macOS engineering team at Okta, a leading identity company. As a key member of our Device Identity and Access organization, you will leverage your deep expertise in macOS (or iOS) client software development to architect, build, and scale critical macOS software and services at the heart of our security and identity platform. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Software Engineer on our macOS engineering team, you will partner closely with Product Management, Engineering Directors, and Principal Architects to translate strategic business objectives into technical roadmaps. You will drive cross-functional collaboration with Product, Design, and QA to ensure the seamless delivery of our most critical engineering initiatives. You will also lead the design and implementation of new features and services, taking ownership from conception to deployment. In this role, you will act as a force multiplier across multiple teams, mentoring Staff and Senior engineers, guiding technical design reviews, and raising the engineering bar across the entire pillar. You will create and maintain high-quality technical documentation and foster a culture of knowledge sharing within the team and the broader organization. WHAT YOU'LL NEED To succeed in this role, you will need: - 7+ years of progressive software development experience, with a proven track record of designing and building macOS (or iOS) features using Swift. - Deep expertise with macOS (or iOS) software environments, including design and performance optimization, security considerations. - Proven expertise in advanced debugging and performance optimization using Xcode, LLDB, and Instruments to resolve complex memory issues and concurrency bugs. - Experience in fast-paced agile environments, with a strong understanding of CI/CD and automated testing. - Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences and influence technical direction. - Proficiency in leveraging AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot) to accelerate the development lifecycle. - Cross-Platform context with strong conceptual understanding of macOS (or iOS) security features.
