Principal Software Developer I - Distributed Systems - Elasticsearch

ABOUT THE ROLE We are seeking a highly skilled Principal Software Developer I to join our Elasticsearch - Distributed Systems team at Elastic, the Search AI Company. As a key member of this team, you will focus on developing and improving Elasticsearch's components that support concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines, ensuring the platform's scale, performance, and resilience. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Principal Software Developer I, you will be responsible for: - Improving Elasticsearch's components that support concurrent and consistent indexing across multiple machines - Maintaining our cluster coordination system to ensure high performance even in the presence of node additions and removals, while maintaining the safety and liveness properties of the system - Pushing the limits on the number of shards, nodes, and petabytes that Elasticsearch can handle - Investigating and resolving complex issues, including performance and concurrency problems - Collaborating with support engineers to address challenging problems WHAT YOU'LL NEED To succeed in this role, you will need: - A strong background in distributed systems and consensus algorithms - Proficiency in core Java, including the standard library of data structures and concurrency constructs, as well as newer language features - A deep technical proficiency in algorithms - Experience working on complex, highly distributed systems - Ability to own projects from beginning to end, including technical design and collaboration with others - Experience managing projects involving multiple engineers WHY REMOTE As a distributed company, we value diversity and flexibility.
