Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE Physical Superintelligence is a high‑impact startup founded by leaders from Google, NVIDIA, Harvard, Meta, MIT, Oxford, Johns Hopkins, Cambridge, and the Perimeter Institute. Our mission is to unlock the next era of physics through artificial superintelligence, building the infrastructure that turns scientific curiosity into scalable, verifiable breakthroughs. As a Member of Technical Staff Engineering you will help design, ship, and maintain the platform that powers distributed scientific computing, AI agent systems, and cloud‑native infrastructure. You will work alongside world‑class researchers and engineers, taking full ownership from specification to production, and ensuring the systems you build are robust, secure, and future‑proof. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Own the end‑to‑end development of core platform services, from distributed data pipelines to high‑performance computing orchestration. - Collaborate with research scientists to translate experimental requirements into scalable, reproducible software solutions. - Design and implement agent‑centric tooling that enables automated experimentation and evaluation at scale. - Lead on‑call support, incident response, and post‑mortem analysis, driving continuous improvement of reliability and observability. - Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of rigorous testing, clear documentation, and simple, maintainable code. - Advocate for security best practices across the stack, ensuring compliance with industry standards and internal policies. WHAT YOU'LL NEED - Proven experience shipping production‑grade systems that are widely used and have stood the test of time. - Deep expertise in at least one of the following: distributed systems, data infrastructure, agent‑based AI, HPC, scientific computing, developer platforms, or security. - Strong problem‑solving skills, with the ability to make trade‑offs, articulate the rationale behind technical decisions, and reflect on lessons learned. - Proficiency in modern cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) and container orchestration (Kubernetes). - Comfortable writing clear, human‑readable specifications that can also be parsed by automated agents. - Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex concepts to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders. WHY REMOTE We embrace a distributed, asynchronous culture that empowers engineers to work from anywhere while staying tightly connected through daily stand‑ups, code reviews, and shared documentation. Flexibility in hours allows you to balance personal commitments with the demands of high‑velocity scientific discovery. Remote work also expands our talent pool, bringing diverse perspectives that enrich our platform and accelerate innovation. BENEFITS Competitive salary and early‑stage equity package. Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage. Generous paid time off and a flexible holiday policy. Remote work stipend and equipment allowance. Dedicated learning budget for courses, conferences, and certifications. Inclusive, equity‑focused workplace with a strong commitment to diversity and belonging.
