Machine Learning PhD Intern, Economics (Fall)

ABOUT THE ROLE We're transforming the grocery industry at Instacart. We believe everyone should have access to the food they love and more time to enjoy it together. Our team is building the platform to make this possible, and we're looking for talented interns to join our Economics team. WHAT YOU'LL DO As an intern on our Economics team, you'll work on a range of interesting and challenging problems at the intersection of machine learning and economics. You'll help design and build end-to-end machine learning solutions, work in small and cross-functional product teams, and contribute to organization-wide initiatives. You'll have the opportunity to develop high-impact solutions to support Instacart's ambitious growth plans and work closely with engineers, product managers, and other teams. WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you'll need a combination of experience in both economics and machine learning. We're looking for current or recently graduated PhD students in economics or related fields like marketing, finance, or operations research. You should have some relevant research experience, typically in computationally intensive empirical topics, as well as some exposure to machine learning coursework and applications. You'll also need expertise in causal inference with observational and experimental data, Python or R, and fluency in data manipulation and machine learning tools. The base pay range for a successful candidate is dependent on their permanent work location, with ranges starting at $42 USD in some states and up to $50 USD in others.
