Lead Software Engineer - Frontend

ABOUT THE ROLE New Relic is seeking a Lead Software Engineer - Frontend to provide strategic, technical leadership in our fast-growing team. As a seasoned Frontend specialist with a strong background in backend development, you will lead frontend initiatives across Log Management, including Logs Intelligence, Log Compliance, and Log Ingestion features. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining customer-facing UIs, robust Java-based backend services, and APIs that feed log management user experiences. Your expertise in React, TypeScript, and agentic AI tools will enable you to accelerate and enhance the software development lifecycle. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Lead Software Engineer - Frontend, you will lead the development and maintenance of customer-facing UIs that interface with complex, high-throughput data streaming systems across Logs Intelligence, Log Compliance, and Log Ingestion. You will also develop and maintain robust Java-based backend services and APIs that specifically feed the log management user experiences. Additionally, you will actively participate in the team's on-call rotation, taking on reliability work to triage and support both our APIs and our highly distributed streaming services. You will work collaboratively with product managers, designers, architects, researchers, and other engineers to ship software incrementally with frequent customer feedback. WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you will need 8+ years of software engineering experience, operating as a dedicated Frontend specialist but possessing a strong, practical background in backend development. You will require expertise in React, TypeScript, including hooks, state management, and component-based architecture. Hands-on experience leveraging agentic AI tools to improve engineering efficiency is also essential. You will need to be proficient in frontend unit testing and automated end-to-end testing using frameworks like Playwright. Good communication skills are necessary to collaborate with technical and non-technical stakeholders using Slack, Zoom, and documentation tools.
