Fullstack Engineer (TypeScript), AI Engineering: Duo Client SDK

ABOUT THE ROLE GitLab is redefining how teams ship secure, high‑quality software by combining DevSecOps with AI‑driven productivity. As a Fullstack Engineer on the Duo Client SDK team, you will shape the foundation that powers GitLab Duo across editors, the web chat, and future external applications. Your work will extract the logic currently embedded in the GitLab Language Server into a well‑versioned, publishable TypeScript SDK that other engineers and partners can depend on. In a distributed, fully remote environment, you will collaborate with senior and staff engineers, product, and design to deliver durable, backward‑compatible APIs that scale across Node.js and browser platforms. WHAT YOU'LL DO You will design and implement the SDK’s Node.js core and public API, ensuring clear interfaces, semantic versioning, and comprehensive changelogs. You will extract and publish TypeScript packages from the Language Server, migrating consumers incrementally while maintaining backward compatibility. You will build isomorphic core packages that isolate platform‑specific behavior in adapters, and you will improve SDK client surfaces, including Vue 3 components used in Duo Chat on the web. You will strengthen credential handling across hosts, optimize bundle size and startup cost for browser consumers, and support a Tier 2 on‑call rotation for urgent engineering issues. Your contributions will be well‑tested, secure, and performant, and you will ship small features with minimal guidance while actively participating in code reviews and design discussions. WHAT YOU'LL NEED You have strong proficiency in TypeScript across both frontend and backend systems and experience building and maintaining Node.js services. You are familiar with modern build and packaging tools, monorepos, multi‑module builds, ESM, and dependency management. You have experience with Vue 3 and the Composition API or comparable component‑based frameworks, and you are eager to deepen your Vue skills. You understand the differences between running code in Node.js and the browser and can write code that works reliably in both environments. You bring a security‑first mindset, careful credential handling, and performance optimization to every feature. You communicate clearly and concisely in writing, propose iterative solutions, and thrive in an agile, fully remote organization that values transparency and open communication.
