Engineering Manager - Platform (FinHub - Financial Intelligence)

ABOUT THE ROLE Coinbase is building the next generation of financial infrastructure that powers every product on the platform. As an Engineering Manager in the FinHub Platform group, you will lead a team of six engineers who build the universal account primitive, real‑time transaction history engine, and internal developer experience tools. Your leadership will guide the re‑architecture of these foundational systems to support new product primitives such as sub‑accounts, retirement accounts, and agentic trading experiences. You will collaborate closely with product, finance, and engineering leadership to define quarterly roadmaps and deliver high‑impact, scalable solutions that underpin the entire Coinbase ecosystem. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Lead, coach, and grow a diverse team of engineers across backend services, streaming pipelines, and full‑stack tooling, fostering technical excellence and career development. - Own the re‑architecture of core account and history systems, translating long‑term technical challenges into actionable, measurable milestones. - Drive the FinHub Tools roadmap, building internal UIs, dashboards, and agentic workflows that accelerate engineering and operations across the company. - Shape architectural decisions for distributed systems, event‑driven pipelines, and developer experience, ensuring high‑quality code and thorough design reviews. - Partner with product, finance, and leadership to break complex infrastructure projects into iterative, shippable releases. - Recruit top talent, establish engineering quality processes, and maintain SLA accountability, incident response, and on‑call practices. WHAT YOU'LL NEED - Seven or more years of software engineering experience with at least two years of proven engineering management, including hiring, coaching, and developing engineers. - A track record of delivering and operating distributed systems at scale in production, with hands‑on ability to review code, lead incidents, and triage issues. - Experience translating ambiguous, long‑horizon technical problems into concrete execution plans with measurable outcomes. - Deep knowledge of financial systems, event‑driven architectures, or high‑precision transaction processing where correctness and reliability are critical. - Comfort leading teams across backend, streaming, and full‑stack domains while prioritizing developer and operator user experience. - Responsible use of generative AI, maintaining human oversight to deliver business‑ready outputs and measurable improvements in workflow efficiency, cost, and quality.
