Engineering Manager, Data Transformation

ABOUT THE ROLE Stripe is building the global financial infrastructure that powers millions of businesses, from large enterprises to ambitious startups. The Data Transformation team is at the heart of this mission, delivering batch and real‑time pipelines that feed critical analytics, dashboards, and product workflows for over 400 product teams. As Engineering Manager, you will lead a high‑performing engineering squad that designs, builds, and operates the platform that powers data development across the company. Your leadership will shape the roadmap for streaming transformation, incremental processing, and ergonomic data modeling, ensuring that Stripe’s data assets remain reliable, scalable, and accessible to data scientists, engineers, and product managers alike. WHAT YOU’LL DO You will mentor and grow a team of engineers, driving high‑quality delivery of transformation services that scale to thousands of concurrent users. You will partner with infrastructure, product, and data science leaders to translate user needs into technical priorities, ensuring that the platform supports both existing and emerging use cases such as Sigma reporting and Radar fraud detection. You will oversee the full development lifecycle—from architecture and design through deployment and incident response—maintaining rigorous quality standards and on‑time releases. You will provide hands‑on technical leadership, guiding architectural decisions around Spark, Flink, Airflow, Kafka, and other core technologies, while fostering a culture of experimentation and continuous improvement. You will collaborate with senior stakeholders to define the long‑term vision of the Data Transformation roadmap and communicate progress to executives and cross‑functional teams. WHAT YOU’LL NEED You bring at least three years of experience managing engineering teams that ship and operate large‑scale data pipelines and distributed infrastructure. You have a proven track record of recruiting, building, and retaining high‑performing teams, and you thrive in ambiguous, fast‑moving environments. You possess deep technical acumen in distributed data processing, with hands‑on expertise in Kafka, Flink, Spark, Airflow, Python, SQL, and API design. You are a decisive leader who can balance trade‑offs, prioritize customer needs, and maintain a strong focus on reliability and efficiency. You communicate clearly with technical and non‑technical audiences, and you champion a healthy, inclusive workplace that encourages innovation and collaboration.
