LaunchDarkly
Engineering Manager, AgentControl
Job Description
ABOUT THE ROLE
LaunchDarkly is expanding its AgentControl team and seeks an Engineering Manager to guide a high‑impact group of backend and infrastructure engineers. In this role you will shape the next generation of the AgentControl product, which powers offline evaluations, playgrounds, LLM‑as‑judges, and annotated datasets for customers who rely on our platform to ship agents safely and efficiently. You will collaborate with Product, Design, and cross‑functional engineering teams to translate strategic objectives into reliable, scalable services built in Go, Python, and Typescript on AWS, CockroachDB, and Datadog.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
You will build and mentor a team of 6–10 engineers, providing coaching, performance feedback, and career development plans. Partner with Product and Design to scope, estimate, and sequence roadmap items, making real‑time trade‑offs that keep the team focused and productive. Own the delivery of features, ensuring they meet quality, reliability, and security standards. Collaborate with adjacent teams—AI Agents, Observability, Feature Management—to align on shared infrastructure and cross‑team dependencies. Communicate progress, risks, and technical decisions clearly to senior leadership and stakeholders. Establish and enforce working norms that promote collaboration, reduce silos, and keep engineers engaged. Drive operational excellence by improving observability, incident response, and reliability of production systems. Participate actively in hiring to grow the team and elevate engineering standards.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
You bring at least three years of software engineering experience, with a minimum of two years managing backend or infrastructure engineers. Demonstrated success partnering with Product Management to translate business goals into engineering plans with reliable estimates is essential. Strong communication skills are required, especially in distributed, cross‑timezone environments. You have a proven track record of coaching engineers, managing performance, and fostering technical mentorship. Familiarity with observability practices—metrics, tracing, alerting, structured logging—and comfort with production incident response are mandatory. Experience with AI providers such as Anthropic, OpenAI, Bedrock, and Gemini, as well as AI tooling like Langchain and Arize, is highly valued. Proficiency in Go and Python (or comparable backend languages such as Java, Rust, or Ruby) is a plus.
WHY REMOTE
LaunchDarkly embraces a fully distributed, async culture that empowers teams to work from anywhere while maintaining high productivity and collaboration. Your schedule will be flexible, allowing you to balance work with personal commitments while staying connected with teammates through video, chat, and shared documentation. The remote environment encourages autonomy, continuous learning, and a focus on results rather than hours logged. You will have access to a remote stipend to support a productive home office and the flexibility to choose the workspace that best fits your workflow.
BENEFITS
LaunchDarkly offers a competitive benefits package that includes comprehensive health, vision, and dental coverage, a generous paid time off policy, and a 10% bonus target. Employees receive a remote stipend, a learning budget for courses and conferences, and access to mental health resources. The company also provides equity, a robust retirement plan, and a culture of high trust and transparency that values your contributions and career growth.
