ABOUT THE ROLE
We're on a mission to build technology that connects the world, and we're looking for a highly skilled Engineering Director, Security to join our team. As a senior leader within our global Security organisation, you'll partner directly with the CISO and other senior engineering leaders to define and deliver a strategy that protects our global footprint.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
As the Engineering Director, Security, you'll lead an organisation of 30–50 engineers and leaders to drive the secure-by-design mandate, ensuring that our core platform primitives are built with inherent security properties. Your key responsibilities will include:
- Driving the transition from reactive security to proactive architectural invariants, eliminating systemic risk by identifying fundamental, cross-cutting security problems and driving major software engineering improvements to solve them at the root.
- Partnering with product and software engineering teams to embed a healthy security culture into Monzo's product development process.
- Cultivating an engineering-first culture, fostering a culture where security engineers are, first and foremost, software engineers.
- Managing a high-performing group of software engineering leaders and senior individual contributors, nurturing a diverse organisation that thrives on solving the world's most complex security challenges.
- Collaborating with software engineering managers and engineering leaders to contribute to company-wide security best practices and standards.
- Forming a close alliance with the CISO, CTO, and Product leaders to advise on the long-term health of the business, ensuring our security roadmap is aligned with our global mission.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
We're looking for a deeply technical software engineering leader who has built and led high-performing infrastructure, platform, or distributed systems engineering organisations. You'll need:
- Exceptional engineering leadership, organisational design, platform thinking, and strong technical judgement.
- Experience building highly reliable, secure-by-default software systems at scale.
- Architectural authority, with the technical depth to understand and challenge complex engineering decisions.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with cross-functional teams.

We're a remote-friendly company, and this role can be based in London or remotely within the UK. You'll have the flexibility to work from anywhere, while still being part of a global team that's making a significant impact in the financial technology industry.
BENEFITS
This role comes with a base salary of £170k - £225k, plus equity, and a range of benefits, including those listed on our careers page.
