Datadog
Developer Advocate - Service Management
Job Description
ABOUT THE ROLE
Datadog’s Service Management team is at the forefront of shaping how modern organizations respond to incidents, run on‑call schedules, and automate operational workflows. As a Developer Advocate, you will bridge the gap between our engineering excellence and the wider DevOps, SRE, and operations communities, translating complex service‑management concepts into engaging, actionable content. Your influence will help thousands of teams adopt best practices that reduce downtime, improve SLO attainment, and drive continuous improvement across the cloud observability landscape.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
You will serve as the subject‑matter expert on service‑management topics such as incident response, on‑call, IDP, workflow automation, and operational tooling, collaborating closely with product engineering to build compelling demos and proof‑of‑concepts. You will create and deliver content across multiple mediums—including blogs, videos, webinars, and conference talks—to establish Datadog as a thought leader in observability and incident management. You will partner with open‑source communities to craft messaging, develop integrations, and advocate for features that meet real‑world needs. You will actively contribute to product improvement by providing feedback, writing documentation, and writing code or scripts that enhance the platform. Finally, you will coach internal teams on effective communication, ensuring our engineering stories resonate with both technical and non‑technical audiences.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED
You bring at least five years of experience as a Platform, Site Reliability, DevOps, or Software Engineer, with hands‑on involvement in on‑call and incident response for production systems. You possess deep knowledge of service‑management practices, including incident handling, post‑mortem analysis, SLOs, and the tooling ecosystem such as PagerDuty, Opsgenie, and Jira. You have a proven track record of storytelling, having published technical blogs, recorded demos, or spoken at industry events such as SREcon or DevOpsDays. You are comfortable coding in at least one scripting or programming language—Node.js, Python, Go, or Bash—and can work with APIs, cloud infrastructure, and containerized environments. You thrive on self‑directed learning and are eager to explore new technologies. Bonus points are earned for hands‑on experience with ITSM platforms like ServiceNow or Jira Service Management, and for active participation in SRE or DevOps communities.
WHY REMOTE
Datadog’s culture is built on distributed, asynchronous collaboration, allowing teams to work across time zones while maintaining high productivity and strong connection. Remote work provides flexibility to balance personal commitments with professional growth, supported by a robust virtual collaboration framework that keeps every team member informed and engaged. By joining our remote team, you will have the freedom to design your workspace, while still enjoying the camaraderie of a global community that shares a common mission to make observability accessible to all.
BENEFITS
Competitive health, dental, and vision coverage; generous paid time off and flexible holidays; a remote work stipend to support home‑office setup; a learning and development budget for courses, conferences, and certifications; equity participation; and comprehensive wellness programs including mental health resources and virtual fitness classes.
