Job Description

ABOUT THE ROLE Anthropic is a rapidly growing organization dedicated to creating reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. Our mission is to develop safe and beneficial AI for our users and society as a whole. We are seeking a highly skilled Data Center Electrical Engineer to lead the electrical design of our facilities across the Asia Pacific (APAC) portfolio. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Data Center Electrical Engineer based in Japan, you will be responsible for leading the electrical design of our facilities, owning the architecture from the utility service entrance through to the rack. You will develop and maintain reference designs and specifications for our build partners, review their engineering submittals, and analyze data to make informed decisions on topology, redundancy, and equipment selection. You will also ensure that the electrical architecture keeps pace with rapidly increasing rack densities and the unique load characteristics of large-scale ML training. Your responsibilities will include: - Leading the electrical design of critical data center equipment across the APAC portfolio, including utility interface and substation, site-wide medium-voltage (MV) infrastructure, generators, uninterruptible power supplies (UPS), switchgear, transformers, and earthing/grounding systems. - Developing and maintaining Anthropic's electrical basis of design, reference architectures, and technical specifications for critical power distribution, including switchgear, UPS systems, PDUs, busway, and rack power delivery. - Performing and validating engineering studies, including short-circuit, coordination, arc flash, load flow, and power quality analysis, to inform design decisions and equipment selection. - Reviewing and approving electrical design packages, submittals, and shop drawings from build partners and MEP consultants to ensure designs meet capacity, reliability, and maintainability requirements. WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you will need: - 10+ years of electrical engineering experience in mission-critical facilities, with substantial time spent on data center or other high-availability electrical design. - Fluency in data center design conventions, codes, and supply markets of Japan, Korea, and the broader APAC region, including Australia. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions. - Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with internal stakeholders, build partners, vendors, and utilities. - Strong leadership skills, with the ability to manage concurrent projects across multiple geographies and travel to sites for design review and startup support. WHY REMOTE This is a global role with a regional focus, requiring the ability to work independently and collaboratively with teams across different time zones. As a Data Center Electrical Engineer, you will have the opportunity to work on complex and challenging projects, develop your skills and expertise, and contribute to the growth and success of Anthropic. BENEFITS - Competitive salary and benefits package - Opportunity to work on complex and challenging projects - Collaborative and dynamic work environment - Professional development and growth opportunities - Flexible work arrangements, including remote work options
