Backend Engineer, Financial Connections

ABOUT THE ROLE The Backend Engineer, Financial Connections role is a critical position at Stripe, a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. As a key member of the Financial Connections team, you will play a vital role in building the connective tissue between banks and the internet economy. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. WHAT YOU'LL DO As a Backend Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain scalable bank integration infrastructure. You will work across the stack, creating intelligent systems that adapt to the availability of our banking partners and enable connectivity for new countries and product use cases. Your responsibilities will include: - Scoping and leading large technical projects, translating business goals into clear technical requirements and executing effectively - Aligning our tech stack with Stripe’s broad strategic initiatives, while also advocating for the needs of the emerging new businesses - Working with engineers across the company to deliver comprehensive and reliable access to trustworthy banking data - Balancing the tradeoffs between short-term requirements and long-term roadmaps, making decisions that consider business priorities, user experience, and sustainable technical foundations - Mentoring and collaborating with other engineers and managers to grow the next generation of leaders at Stripe WHAT YOU'LL NEED To be successful in this role, you will need a strong technical background, including 3+ years of experience designing and engineering large-scale systems. You should be comfortable working on a new product under fluid conditions, seamlessly balancing tactical and strategic considerations. You should also have a track record of leading and shipping complex cross-team projects end-to-end, from scoping and design through production and operations.
