ABOUT THE ROLE Scale AI is inviting a Legal Fellow to join the Human Frontier Collective (HFC) Fellowship, a six‑month independent contractor engagement focused on shaping the future of generative AI. The Fellow will work remotely from the UK, collaborating with Scale’s research team and partner AI labs to evaluate, design, and refine advanced AI systems for legal applications. The role offers a unique blend of academic rigor and industry impact, allowing the Fellow to contribute to high‑profile research publications and to influence the development of AI tools that support legal decision‑making. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Engage in interdisciplinary projects with partner AI labs, designing realistic scenarios and evaluating model outputs for accuracy, regulatory compliance, and ethical alignment across domains such as compliance, litigation, case law, and contract analysis. - Provide detailed, actionable feedback to improve AI performance, ensuring outputs meet stringent legal standards and reflect current regulatory frameworks. - Collaborate with Scale’s research scientists to co‑author technical reports, research papers, and benchmark studies, enhancing your academic visibility and contributing to the broader AI community. - Participate in the HFC community, attending virtual workshops, discussion forums, and networking events with leading scholars and practitioners. - Maintain rigorous documentation of evaluation criteria, findings, and recommendations, supporting transparent and reproducible research practices. WHAT YOU'LL NEED - A JD, LLM, or enrollment in a top‑tier 2L/3L program, with bar admission strongly preferred. - Demonstrated experience as an attorney, legal analyst, in‑house counsel, law clerk, or law professor, with a strong track record in legal research, regulatory analysis, and drafting. - Expertise in constitutional law, case law interpretation, and the ability to translate complex legal concepts into clear, concise briefs. - A detail‑oriented, innovative mindset with a passion for financial technology and a commitment to collaborative problem‑solving. - Strong written and verbal communication skills, capable of articulating nuanced legal insights to technical audiences. - Proficiency with digital collaboration tools and a self‑directed work ethic, essential for a remote, asynchronous environment.
